The storms will come. Are you prepared? Sometimes you see them gradually roll in and prepared for what is approaching. Other times, you are blind sided. You just did not see it coming.
We had a few such storms today. In moments, the sky went dark, the wind raged and the rains came down. Then just as quickly as it blew in, it was gone and the sun popped out.
It can be that way in life as well. Some challenges are easily overcome because they were small, but it is the big ones that stop you in your tracks. They throw you through a loop, tie you down and leave you in a wake of mess.
This is where you have a decision to make…
Will I let this defeat me, keep me from moving forward, or give up on my dreams?
Decide to be a survivor, be an over-comer, rise above and create a win that will be part of your story that you share with others that pulls them through their tough spots?
Too much time is wasted focusing on what may happen or thinking about the approaching storm. When we focus on the storm, we invite more storms into our life. How many times have you seen the sky get dark, but nothing ever came of it? Rather spend time living life and enjoying the everyday moments that are presented to you. Stop worrying about the storm that has past or an impending one, it won't change it.
I believe that we need to be more like kids. They don't usually worrying about what was or will be but on the WHAT IS, the now.
A couple of things happened recently that made this observation so evident. First, a picture on Facebook of my friend's son playing outside with his bulldozer in the rocks. His mother watching over him and in the background were very dark clouds over her shoulder. Her words were, “just before the storm came in.” BUT this kid is playing without any fear. Not focused on the storm, but enjoying every moment he has before it comes.
Coincidentally, we had a storm go through within a day or so after I saw this picture. Now going through the storm was scary for my girls as it was a pretty rough one. But the next day, they did not give it a thought. They rode bikes and splashed in the new puddles and not thinking about the fear they had the day before. They enjoyed the moment.
A great mentor has said that life is full of steps forward and some steps back. Don't let the steps back – stop you from learning and taking those giant leaps into something awesome.
